I first met Annie Sloan in the early summer of 2008. I had read many of her books over the years (she has now produced over 20!) and like many other people, I had been inspired and greatly influenced by her creativity and style.
So …. taking myself off to Oxford for the weekend, I enrolled on one of her paint workshops to be further inspired. Little did I know at that time what a turning point in our lives this was to be.
Returning to Suffolk, my partner and myself set the wheels in motion to become stockists of Annie Sloan’s (now) world renowned ‘Chalk Paint’ which happened just a few weeks later in August 2008. The rest, as they say, is history and over the subsequent years we have watched as this ‘miracle’ paint has grown in popularity: it continues to be the inspiration behind our workshops that we host for our customers throughout the year.
Chalk Paint allows us to showcase beautifully the vintage furniture that we sell in our shop – whether it is a rustic, battered old cupboard or a beautiful ‘Chateau-style’ French chest of drawers, the versatility of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint is amazing.
In September 2015, Annie Sloan celebrated 25 years of producing her Chalk Paint. We are proud to be part of the continuing Annie Sloan success story……
Annie Sloan, world renowned paint guru, invented the incredibly versatile Chalk Paint™ in 1990. It is water-based, eco-friendly and is high in pigment content so therefore has remarkable covering power. It can be used straight from the can or diluted with water as required. In our opinion, it is the best paint for painting furniture without question and in most circumstances no priming or sanding down is required. You can apply it directly to so many surfaces:- wood, MDF, plaster, brick, metal, matt plastics (such as garden pots), ceramics, melamime etc. etc. It will stick to surfaces that are already painted or waxed (yes it goes over wax!) and as stockists of this miracle paint since 2008, we are still enthusing about its amazing qualities. You can even ‘dye’ and paint on fabric with it !
Available in 36 shades – all of which can be intermixed to create an almost endless palette – ranging from soft neutrals through to Mediterranean brights.
Watch Annie Sloan demonstrate the use of Chalk Paint™. We run regular workshops throughout the year, here, at Painted Country to give you confidence in using the paint and wax and to help perfect your technique.
Wall paint is a tough, water-based household paint that takes whatever life throws its way. Everyday spills and marks are cleaned off with ease, making this an exceptionally practical, high performance paint for walls and ceilings. It’s robust, smooth and easy to use with a luxurious, soft-matt finish and a very slight sheen – the perfect compliment to Chalk Paint™.
As its title suggests, this workshop will get you in the mood to paint & decorate everything in sight! We show you all the techniques you need to get going in a relaxed, fun 3 hour workshop. Ask questions and experience using Annie Sloan products on a sample board which is yours to keep. All materials and refreshments included.
Some of the techniques covered:- 2-colour distressing, textured paint, gilding & craquelure – plus how to finish with waxes.
Working on your own piece of furniture and under our expert guidance, you will learn how to create simple painted finishes in a plain or distressed style. No sample boards – we get stuck into painting your piece straightaway using the extremely versatile Chalk Paint and waxes by Annie Sloan . You should bring with you a small piece such as a bedside cabinet, a side table, a kitchen chair etc which you will complete in the alloted time. Your project should be discussed with us beforehand. All materials, a light lunch and refreshments are included.
Recommended especially (but not necessarily!) for those who already have some knowledge of the ‘distressed’ finish, this workshop will enable you to further develop your skills in creating aged, patinated surfaces on furniture and walls -the kind of look you will often see in our shop. Working on sample boards, we will show you how to create a ‘faux’ wallpaper effect, how to use washes of Chalk Paint™ and coloured waxes to ‘knock back’ and alter a painted surface. These are just some of the techniques you will practise and be able to include in your ‘repertoire’ – all of which you will produce on sample boards to take away and inspire you for future projects. All materials and refreshments included.
